How can you put into words the beauty of an Oscar de la Renta design? His dresses were incredible. I envisioned Mr. de la Renta as the epitome of a true gentleman. Dressed in impeccably tailored suits, he had an elevated level of class, as did his work.
Mr. de la Renta, started his fashion career at Cristobal Balenciaga, later moving to Lanvin, Elizabeth Arden, and then to the creation of his own namesake line. He has notably said that his duties at Balenciaga involved “picking pins off of the floor.” As an aspiring designer myself, it’s refreshing to see such a talented individual discuss his beginnings in the industry. He worked from the bottom up, going on to achieve renowned success.
The fashion industry has lost a great soul today and we will all mourn the loss of this legendary designer. A certain quote from an interview between de la Renta and Fern Mallis sticks out above the rest.
The only realities in life are that you are born, and that you die. You have to appreciate every single day that you’re alive. Life is a little bit like a garden—you have to find time to plant the seeds for beautiful flowers to grow. I’m having a fantastic time. But I must say that I would have never been able to go through what I went through without my family and wife. — Oscar de la Renta

“You’re only given one little spark of madness. You mustn’t lose it.”
– Robin Williams
Yesterday I learned the sad news that Robin Williams had passed away. He made me laugh so hard that I’d actually cry. He was a true icon, a talent, and a man who will be remembered by so many for touching our lives in different ways.
This particular quote speaks to me more than any of the others. Embrace your bit of madness. Take it and run with it. Hold on to it and the things that make yourself “you.” Stay strong, be creative, let loose, be funny, and most of all don’t be afraid. The funniest man in the world suffered from depression. If you’re depressed, get help and if it doesn’t work the first time, continue to get help. Everyone is fighting their own set of battles unbeknownst to others . If you’re contemplating suicide, reach out to someone. It’s not the only answer and you’re not alone. Help is always on the way, you just need to seek it out. Robin Williams, you will be missed.

Wise words for today: A can-do attitude can go a long way!
The Wise Brunette is back up and running after being down for several days. I changed hosting companies for my blog and I managed to move the entire site myself with very limited assistance from the live chat guy. There were only a few times that I wanted to bang my head against a wall or reach into cyberspace and shake WordPress. The major hurdles: my content showed up, but my images were lost along the way and I found out that none of the page links worked. It’s ok though, because I fixed it! Me! I fixed it! Man, that feels really good to say. I’m a beginner when it comes to web design, coding, etc., but right now I feel like I’ve got my black belt. Hello intermediate level! Now, I’m off to go dance around my living room for awhile and celebrate. Tomorrow I’ll be back with a brand new post. It’s only been almost a month, right? 😉
